Pros

Lots of smart and passionate people from all over the world combined with a truly global footprint provides a wide variety of interesting opportunities for both vertical and horizontal career growth. The combination of three related industries (building, auto, power), all linked by a common focus on efficiency, promotes innovation.

Cons

Excessive focus on short term numbers and performance tends to favor unethical employees who are willing to massage numbers and game the system. It also hurts these employees who tell it like it is. The result is that problems can be swept under the rug to come back and haunt the company later.

Pros

Johnson has a great telecommute policy. I worked in the office for 3 days a week and home for 2 when I first started but by the second year, I was able to be at home full time. Made a move across the country and was still able to keep my job. Work is plentiful and sometimes interesting, working in the department that I did, I was happy to be helping with energy saving strategies.

Cons

Management is underhanded and unorganized. They will give you a "rating system" of your skills and ask you to complete. Problem is when you attach point values to those skill levels, it's an illegal way to measure performance. Demoted because of both a major necessary surgery and a chronic illness (that in no way affected my abilities or performance except for recovery time)...make sure you are watching management like a HAWK if you have any medical issues. Middle management has no idea what they are doing and will employ and promote friends with no practical skills. Dollars are the bottom line and they lose good people right and left by treating them poorly. I was finally able to leave the company but my last paycheck was held for 3 WEEKS! I returned everything they asked for, signed all the papers, crossed every t......no pay. Also make sure you read your parting documents with a microscope, my health benefits ended the day I left the company, not at the end of the month as one might assume. Overall message here is to look out for yourself. Management is NOT your friend.

Pros

Huge company with great benefits and very friendly and personable coworkers. Company consistently grew year over year and it was exciting to be a part of it.

Cons

For how big a company it is, JCI operates in silos - that is to say that the different divisions don't talk to one another and it is very hard to transfer into another group. Stress can be high at times during the year, especially around Aug/Sept right before the close of the fiscal year. Variable pay (bonuses) don't start until you are at Sr Manager level, which is a very small % of the employee population...and even then the bonus % aren't very high and seldom get paid out at 100%
