Great room for advancement

Pros

Lots of advancement opportunities. Supportive store and district management. Different roles available to suit different strengths. Pretty good benefits with full time employment. Pay in line with what other companies offer.

Cons

Major disconnect between store and head office levels. Buyers and other above store level employees seem to often not understand what goes on at a store level and therefore make the jobs much harder for store employees. Very few people in head office have education specific to their job - a majority have simply moved up from store level positions and it shows. Company can be very nostalgic which usually doesn't fare well business-wise. Very little room for advancement after store manager level.

Terrible Management

Pros

- Alright pay, follows union wages - Alright employee discount (20%, includes items on sale) - Most people working there are good people It used to be a good place to work when I started, though over the years it became worse.

Cons

- Terrible management, all the good ones left thus leaving the bad ones in the company. - Terrible policies, customer dissatisfaction is high because of this - Terrible delivery schedules - Items on sale out of stock from the distribution center, causing more customers to be angry at the poor employees working there. - Absolutely no way to get higher in the company UNLESS you brownnose higher management. - No proper training and the electronic learning arena is outdated, you literally do the same thing every year and they force you to do it every year. - Bonus program is a joke. - Higher management does not care unless your store is doing poorly/sales are going down - Rarely enough staff to do all tasks in the store. Small stores with a high amount of sales got a small amount of employees to make sure shelves are full and to help customers at the same time, it is either one or the other. - (This one is more personal) Management lying about more work hours/employment - Does not follow Labor Laws. - Staff uses forklifts and other warehouse equipment without proper training and licenses.
