Pros

Laid back. Ok salary. If you're a politician you may have a future here. Beautiful offices

Cons

Bonuses don't depend on your performance. I got promoted only because I got the right contacts. If you just work hard, you won't get a good bonus. The name of the game is be a politician; once you get that, you really don't have to do much.

Pros

Good career opportunities if you're in the banking field, less so in other functions. There is significant innovation in many business units, particularly in relation to online services. High standard of professionalism across the company .

Cons

Expect more layoffs; The company is currently changing radically and downsizing, this follows the legal requirement to split the company to bank and insurer. A complex structure with too many management layers means too much politics throughout the organisation with still too much money wasted due to slow decision making or unclear mandates.

Pros

* If you work for the right departments, like the online banking department, the job can be very interesting and challenging * Work life balance is very good. You never work long hours or weekends. 35 days of paid holidays and bank holidays * My direct managers were very professional and I learned a lot from them. Though that depends on the department and a bit of luck * Many trainings to choose from * The offices are easy to reach in the center of Brussels

Cons

* Too much procedures, policies, rules, forms and other types of red tape * Slow and political decision making. It takes ages to deliver a project * Very hierarchical. You often have to defend your ideas to multiple (disagreeing) levels of management * Too permissive of bad performers which discourages talented people to stay * It's hard to get a raise or a promotion unless you have a lot of patience * Most employees see ING as their job for life. It's almost as if working for a government organization
