Pros

Medical benefits are great. The projects that I've worked on have been engaging and interesting for the most part. Usually it's contracting work for companies outside of IBM. I have heard of some people getting stuck on projects that are not quite as glamorous though.

Cons

Before covid, it was mandatory to work in the office. This was frustrating because I was usually working with client teams in another state or country meaning I traveled all the way to the office to talk on the phone all day to talk to people that were nowhere near me. The company is rather bureaucratic and there are a lot of hoops and seemingly unnecessary trainings that are required to move up the ranks. The pay is pretty underwhelming given the average salary of the field. This was my first major job and I would say it's a great first job, but it feels like a stepping stone, not a destination.
