Pros

Cutting edge research. Many resources to back projects. Large impact if successful. Solid job security and decent salary.

Cons

Extreme amount of bureaucracy required to maintain so many employees. Bogs down any agile development. Long-time employees rarely challenge the status quo and are unlikely to innovate. It is easy for many mediocre employees to simply be shifted from team to team since IBM rarely fires employees for poor job performance as long as an effort is being made.
