Pros

+ Learns about hospitality in general quite fast. + Team of professionals and clear leadership from the higher ups and corporate. + Clear goals and requirements. + Constant learning and chances to get promoted. + A judgement free place to work (which is rare in this city).

Cons

- Low salaries. - Expect to be doing 2 or 3 people's work. Burn out can happen easly. - Costumers tend to scream and demand stuff like it was the Colonial times. - Getting promoted is not offered, but either demanded or researched for.

Several Benefits!

Pros

I want to preface that I am not a professional and I work on a shift-based schedule with most of my pay coming from tips. (My location is the Hyatt Regency Austin) Considering all of this, I still receive several benefits! Part-time and full-time employees from all sections of the hotel receive great benefits. My managers listen to my input, I feel heard. I get free meals and snacks from our break room, discounted food and drinks from the in-house restaurant and Starbucks, free parking in the garage, medical insurance, several retirement plans, well-being reimbursements (for gym memberships, spa days, etc.), and much more. As someone only entering the labor force, Hyatt has supported me a lot while I continue my studies at University (there is also a $1k tuition reimbursement!).

Cons

As it is a hotel restaurant, there are many times where as a waitress, you make barely any money. This makes the paycheck range quite large. Business in the restaurant, Marker 10, relies heavily on specific guests in-house and the overall occupancy levels. There are some times, as a young girl surrounded by coworkers much older than me, when I feel extremely ostracized or ridiculed. Some of the men I work with make me feel very uncomfortable, including one of my higher-ups. Unfortunately, I expect this from every establishment in the restaurant industry and have experienced it before, so this doesn't faze me much.
