Pros

Flexible schedules, work-at-home opportunities, 40-hr workweeks, innovative health care products and wellness programs, decent benefits package when compared to other health care employers, especially hospitals

Cons

Constant monitoring of telephone conversations, micromanagement by front line leaders, low-level assignments after years of employment, lack of growth opportunity for work-at-home employees, repetitive tasks assigned to employees with bachelor's degrees or higher, a culture of secrecy regarding corporate strategy and departmental initiatives; bait-and-switch tactics with regard to hiring practices (Humana will hire you for a specific job--for which you will reject other opportunities--then after you are committed and on board for a few months, Humana will change your position and responsibilities and even move you to another department or simply add duties to the job you agreed to)

Stable in these economic times.

Pros

Stable in these economic times. Difficult advancement and salary review structure. Some "click" issues in middle management. Senior management has talent and vision that can be lost in mid management translation. Mid management tends to create complexities that slow processes, build barriers to creativity and in other ways "mask" the pool of talent beneath them. Managers should embrace talented staff, reaping the benefits of that talent, after all..., it makes them look good. Stable in these economic times. Difficult advancement and salary review structure. With difiicult economy provides some stability, builds reume skills and pays the bills...only just barely., not much advancement for the masses.

Pros

This company has excellent health benefits and it leading edge when it comes to keeping down members health insurance costs. This company is very innovative. This company makes a huge difference in the community especially the Humana Foundation. It has a lot of growth opportunity and could really be one of the biggest health insurance companies around, especially one that people want to do business with. They do recruit good talent and I've never worked with someone I really didn't like. Most employees are friendly. Within departments, there is a lot of teamwork. I think this company could really go somewhere.

Cons

This company does not promote within well and they certainly don't compensate their best performers well. There have been many times when I know an external candidate would get offered a far greater amount of money than what they have offered the internal candidate. Some management has a hard time communicating and making you feel good about your job. They don't fire people when they need to. There is a lack of communication and team work between departments and you often feel like you don't know who to go to for something. There date resources could be better and more technological.
