Pros
Flexible working and management happy for you to work upside down, left, right or sideways, and however you see fit as long as you are delivering. However, need to go in 3 days pw but not chained to the desk from 9-5:30pm. A lot of trust given by the management team. A sense of empowerment over your work and autonomy Great for working parents and those with personal commitments such as caring etc as very understanding working environment Good market relationships People are friendly, knowledgeable and real experts Varied and interesting work with a good range of clients but not many emerging professions eg tech. Rewarded and recognised for good performance within reason Very supportive of any disabilities Clear vision of where the business is going - the bigger, the better.
Cons
Bonus could be viewed as poor in comparison to the bigger players eg marsh and lockton. It is around 10 percent of your salary in December instead of 25 percent or 10 percent of written income. This may come as a disappointment for the sales hungry driven broker but not for those true to Howden where it's all about process and the journey and being a team. No real clear focus on career development with no written PDP etc. Unless you are mega driven and proactive, expect to sit in a box for a while and potentially cruise. Will suit some but not the more ambitious type who want to fast track their career in the regions so you need to apply elsewhere.
