Pros

Hitachi is a great place to work if you are starting your career. All consultants have a career advisor to help them strategically plan a career path for them at the company. The company prides itself on maintaining a work-life balance, by incorporating community and social activities. Additionally, you work with a great group of consultants similar in age.

Cons

The company does not offer educational reimbursements, and only does so on a case-by-case basis. Compensation is average compared to some of the bigger consulting firms in the area. You are placed on projects, rather having a say in some of the projects that may be of some interest to you.

Pros

Direct access to leadership. Can easily talk to senior management and vice presidents in your region. You won't feel intimidated talking to them - and being a smaller company, they usually know who you are, know about the type of work you do, and have heard of you. The people here are great - being a consulting company, there are people of all ages so there are always people your age to communicate with and grow together with. The company also tries to promote a fun culture by having quarterly meetings, lots of happy hours, and annual picnics. This gives everyone a chance to get together since people are usually spread out at different clients and don't see each other often.

Cons

The promotion criteria is based partly on the time spent at a level rather being solely on the skill, knowledge, and performance of the individual. I know this seems to be the case at most larger corporations, but still feel that this is a bit unfair since some people are quick learners and progress faster than others. The salary is lower in comparison to both jobs in industry and at other consulting firms. The company tries to make up for this by promoting their fun culture (which is true that we try to have fun), but I don't think it's enough to make up for it.

Pros

Firm not too big nor too small; so one can hope to get noticed if perform well; Pay is comparable to big firms

Cons

Difficult to navigate the office politics and difficult to break into the network of ex-Navigator folks who are at the top echelons of the firm; ex-Navigator folks help each other out when it comes to career progression.
