High Pressure, low rewards

Pros

Competitive pay, cool office, beauty sales, free samples, resources of a huge, well established organization

Cons

You better be ready to talk about the most materialistic things in the world if you want people to acknowledge you. Colleagues made you feel like less of a person if you couldn't afford latest brand names. Very colicky and very cut-throat. Trust no one, everyone will use anything you say against you to help themselves move up. Not a personable environment. If you like to listen to other people ONlY talk about themselves this would be a great fit... Otherwise steer clear.. Also plan on working 60+ hours.... It's the unwritten rule of what is expected of you to move up.

Pros

Small-town newspaper, which gave me a lot of opportunities to explore different areas to write about.

Cons

Hearst is known as the least-paying industry, and also is notoriously cheap with its community newspaper properties.
