Pretty good place to work

Pros

Low drama corporate culture. Privately held corporation focused on returns but not quarterly stock prices. Company has a culture of loyalty to employees and to its constituent companies

Cons

If you don't work in the NY Hearst Building, you aren't really part of the core culture. Hard to be a unified organization when it is so diversified. Inherent tension between traditional media business units (newspapers, magazines, etc) and the new up and coming business units (health, finance, digital) that are replacing them. Hard to move up in this heavily siloed organization.
