Pros

Awesome benefits, good management in my particular area. The funding is great in my department and my project is very interesting. I have mostly excellent resources. The facility is very safe. The technology I have access to is excellent, the facilities are very capable, and the people are mostly great to work with.

Cons

The structure can be very bound by policy, both for positions and pay advancement. Sometimes safety policieis are a little too strong due to a large legal influence. Public companies have the typical issues with share holders influencing what the company does.

Pros

Career advancement in some areas of the company is good In general all the people are great to work with Able to travel the world and go places I never thought I would ever visit: Middle East, Russia, Brazil, Norway, etc.

Cons

If you aren't part of the top 10% that management wants to promote, you won't see much career advancement. Management doesn't care about the people, it's more about hitting quarterly numbers at any cost. Too many layoffs, leaving the rest with more work and no extra pay. Not a work life balance company. You are expected to work late nights and weekends.

Pros

they take care of you. give you a company car, pay for your gas, meals (while you're on the job), put you in a hotel if you need to be in one. The money is ok.you get a base salary of about 57,000 and then after 8 or so months you start making bonuses. So basically after your first year you start making significantly more than the base

Cons

Very very very long hours. I stayed on field for 37 hours straight. Very high pressure job. Very boring. Very lonely job. Very unpleasant work environments. Your life becomes about work so you have to be realy really interested in the upstream industry.
