Pros

The only reason to work for HCL is for the health insurance, which is pretty good. If you have five kids, are male and need to insure them cheaply, then it may be worth settling to work at HCL to get that good insurance.

Cons

I'm a white, American female with a graduate degree and fifteen years experience in start ups in Silicon Valley. At HCL, I was treated like I had no degree and no experience. My managers in Chennai treated me like I was a 22 year old blue collar woman and if they could have had me serve them coffee across the oceans that separated us, they would have. DO NOT WORK FOR THEM IF YOU ARE FEMALE, no matter what your race. I did a lot of research on the company and I don't think it's an Indian thing -- HCL is hated in India, too. It's just a very large global company with a terrible culture. Kind of like the Walmart of India. (I won't shop at Walmart because of how they little they pay their floor staff.) I quit the job when I found out I was making 60% of what the white males were making with less experience and education. It's THAT kind of company. I've experience pay differences due to gender in the past, but in companies run by American males, it's usually only a 10% gap, and that I can live with.

Pros

Brand name Exposure to big projects. We cover one area In SD in depth.

Cons

In the HR round they said there is a15 month bond and the penalty for breaking it is 1.25 lakhs. Also I would have to agree to travel anywhere in India and work in any shift. They aren't okay with verbal agreements and they ask freshers to sign a bond with the above terms and conditions. One of my colleagues from a previous organization joined as a lateral and when he left in two months, he was made to pay 19000.

Pros

In 2019, I began working for a small Seattle area contracting firm. They treated us well and paid us well, however, benefits weren't the best. For example, no matching 401K. In late 2019, HCLTech bought this small Seattle area contracting firm. Some of my peers immediately resigned. I thought the HCLTech Leaders who, initially, met with us did a very good job explaining why they purchased this small firm and reasons why we, their employees, should stay following this acquisition. I chose to stay and I have now been a full-time employee for 4 years. For the most part, we remained a subsidiary and not much changed over the next several months. Benefits, including 401K matching, did improve.

Cons

HCLTech's reputation, in America, is poor. This was the case before the underpaying of H-1B visa workers whistlerblower complaint came to light. My biggest complaint is the terrible support their service/help desk "provides" whenever issues arise with my laptop. Most of the people I have communicated with appear to have zero experience fixing even basic laptop issues. Equally bad are the enterprise apps that we use for recording timesheets, completing training, and other basic functions. It's as if these apps were developed in 1995 and work just as poorly as those older systems.
