Pros

If you enjoy a competitive and energy driven enviornment and you like to get your hands dirty doing physical work, its the place for you.

Cons

All that hard work that was mentioned above won't really be recognized or appreciated. You are sent to training classes which preach "servent leadership" but you come back to your work place to senior management who serves only themselves. FedEx is going through a restructuring which knocks upword mobility down dramatically. It is set up to feed on young workers who work hard in an effort to get promoted but rarely see the oppurtunity. The goals keep rising, and to meet these goals we're forced to treat our package handlers like slaves. Shifts are only three hours long, and I find myself sending people home after an hour and a half in an effort to maximize the productivity of the building. The style of management we're forced to use is driving the morale into the dirt. Management often works right along side package handlers...again, in an effort to reach higher and higher goals. Which would be fine if we were hourly, but a 55+ hour work week without any compensation or recognition for going the extra mile gets old pretty quickly. (That works out to be about $13.00 an hour) Our senior package handlers make $12.50 Thats an awful lot of added responsibility for $.50 more an hour.

Pros

Hard consistent work in all types of weather if you like that sort of thing. Best part of the job is that you are alone all day as a courier able to serve your customers and keep a smile on your face. That is not required by management, it comes from within.

Cons

Managers will lie to get their way. Their bonuses are based on your productivity. Check rides mean nothing to them, they will sit in your truck all day and yack on the phone instead of determining a safe workload for you. Many managers do not have anything beyond a high school diploma. The smart ones are those out on road away from the political cesspool of daily station life. This year recession has been the new fear word. Allowing management to consolidate routes and force employees to work through unpaid lunch breaks to achieve unreal goals.

Pros

The pay and health benefits are great.

Cons

Within such a large company there are always "bickering" sides (entities). FedEx Management has gone downhill with a non friendly purpose for its non management employees. Basically, if you work here you must agree with management's style or find another employer! FedEx management is so ANTI UNION, and they preach this word to us daily.
