It's part of FedEx but, it's Awful

Pros

Become an employee to get your foot into the FedEx brand then move to another Opco where they seem to have things a bit more organized. FTN is a deadend in the FedEx world

Cons

Basically you have long time employees hanging on in their positions which clearly have no desire to improve themselves or the company. They started in an office and will end their career in the office and don't really understand air or ocean freight. For a freight forwarder I have never been around so many people that know so little about transportation or even about other parts of FedEx. Middle and upper mgmt don't seem to travel like they do at other forwarders. At other forwarders you will find very diverse team from all over the world even in hourly and intern positions. Well not here they seem to be all from Memphis. They are clueless what markets need attention to grow business and they seem to run both operations and office environments with minimal employees. The next biggest thing for FTN is to grow Air and Ocean to overtake the competition but, they lack the tools, employees, and leverage with carriers to do this. They also want to utilize Fedex Freight to grow their trucking business. I find this strange because most forwarders don't put their focus in the trucking business. They have no TMS system, nor do they plan on getting one, they seem to like do do things manually. They leave positions open intentinaly to save money. Its a company that wants to be global but thinks local. Find something better.

Package Handler

Pros

Simply put, if you can handle waking up way before the rooster crows, scanning packages, and organizing different sizes of boxes onto a truck with limited space, you will do fine (just focus on getting your assigned packages off of the belt, scan 'em, and set them in the truck until you have some time to put them up where they should go. It I really and easy-going job. From what I can gather they only chew you out if you've miss-scanned something or put it on the wrong truck. Other than that, you won't be able to mess it up. My coworkers are some of the best people I have had the chance to work with in my short work history.

Cons

At times there an be so many packages going down the belt, that you will scramble trying to just get them off of the belt. Many of those boxes will be heavy and take up your time trying to set them where they go. Not sure for others, but I am not used to waking up at 1 or 2 in the morning. With family that don't have to wake up in the early hours, I struggle to try and get sleep. To the driver's: Take pity on us; you are not the only truck that we have to load. I get that you want to get out on the road and get done as soon as possible, but please wait and let us scan the boxes (for accountability reasons. just takes 3 seconds).
