Pros

Solid hands-on training, clothing and equipment provided for free, plenty opportunities for overtime, tuition reimbursement, great airport job experience for your resume.

Cons

Laughable wage is the biggest con. FedEx ramp agents are well compensated if they joined in the 1990s or earlier. It takes over a decade before you see your wage become even remotely fair. I was a new ramp agent running circles around the old timers and I got paid a fraction of what they made to do much more work. If you complain, they tell you to "pay your dues." Most nights as a ramp agent you're fixing problems caused by neighboring stations, fighting off 2 or 3 managers breathing down your neck about every detail about your flight, and getting pressured over the phone by Memphis GOC. Underlings call you lazy because they don't understand what you do. Either you're outside in an ice storm/some kind of awful weather, OR you're in a tiny office smelling the farts of your angry whining peers, who by the way, have nothing appropriate or professional to say. SLC and many locations like it suffer from a lack of adequate staff. People walk off their first day when they see how little help they have and how many boxes need to be moved every night. Not to mention morale is often bleak. No flexible schedule, short handed, long late nights, absent HR department, miserable employees and even more miserable managers. Brutal outdoor working conditions, safety is forfeited for speed. Pretty much every time there was a holiday, I could expect my paycheck to be absolutely ruined. Payroll gets an F- from me because I had to repeatedly take copies of my own timecards to management and show them how my paycheck failed to include holiday and overtime pay. I missed rent and other important bills many times because whoever does payroll was too lazy/incompetent to pay attention to holiday pay. Lastly, one of the worst cons is that all the cool perks of working for Fedex have pretty much been snuffed out. No more jump seat privileges, no STEP program raises, little to no Fedex service discounts, no airport perks. All I heard about in my 3 years there was how cool it was to work for Fedex before 2001.

Pros

Good pay. Management cares about hourly employees as they all come from the same background.

Cons

Job feels like a baby-siting gig. People like to complain, but won't take the initiative.
