Pros

Benefits are good (if paying for the more expensive bracket) and the ability to transfer to just about anywhere in the country is a plus. There are limited chances to move up in the company but you then realize you are still doing the same tasks just with more tasks thrown on top that are micromanaged to death.

Cons

I am not sure just how naive the corporate executives are but they really need to see a busy store and roll up their sleeves and help out at one. Employees that are making just a bit more than minimum wage are expected to perform duties of essentially four to five jobs. These jobs are as follows helping customers out in the self-service area; this can include tech support on the computers, faxing, running the copiers or finding that specific retail item, and cashier. A shipping person includes processing shipments, explaining all rates, explaining all shipping options, packing items (in which no formal training is given, packed by pros I think not), and organizing all packages to ensure they are all picked up by the driver. Consulting with customers about their orders, taking the order, running a sample, then running the order, quality checking it and boxing it up to be picked up. Answering phone calls and taking orders over the phone as well as rectifying any shipping and invoice concerns that come through to a FedEx Office and not the 800 number that is specifically created for this. And finally, depending on what location a janitor to clean the bathrooms. Now, imagine having to do all this with a staff of two to three people and there are ten to twenty customers in the store (many times there are more depending the location), FedEx eliminated all job titles such as production, shipping and self serve specialists and replaced them with one umbrella title “center consultant”. While a center consultant is expected to perform all of these duties, there are employees within the same company that do not have as much to handle and are able to concentrate on one core job duty that are being paid more than the center consultants. Yeah, this is FedEx, a Fortune 500 company.

Pros

Good company overall. If your fortunate enough to get placed in a store with fair management practices.

Cons

Store level management gives absolutely no support beyond the store manager.

Cons

Retails hours .. Some 3rd shift ... Even though its a fortune company it sure doesn't seem that way
