Pros

Pay was not the greatest for the workload but competitive for the industry.

Cons

Mid and upper management will ignore issues brought to them by freight handlers and then blame the freight handlers when the issue becomes a bigger issue.

Pros

The money was good, benefits great.

Cons

The hierarchy of upper management was ridiculous. Far too many chiefs and not enough Indians. I was there 10 months April '22 through February '23 . The position is in my opinion, far more clerical than managerial. There are many responsibilities that keep you tethered to a computer sitting in a chair. I did not appreciate the lack of respect for work life balance. I did not appreciate the trips to Indianapolis to do things that to me were pointless. Sometimes I felt like the upper management just wanted to hear themselves talk. The shop was understaffed because the wages offered were not competitive. Tough to meet maintenance goals when you are missing 40% of the staff you are supposed to have. Much of the equipment we were working on was older with the issues assorted with high mileage trucks, trailers and dollies. I found the anticipated goals to be unattainable, and this creates tantamount stress.

Pros

-Chaos free management chain -Competitive Pay (in industry)

Cons

-Terrible work/life balance. The shifts are either early morning graveyard or late night graveyard with scarcely any in between. The current active bids are 6pm-2am, 1pm-9pm, or 2am-10am. -Pay to surplus value ratio is way out of wack. We move millions of dollars of freight every week and are barely paid $35k a year after tax. This is one of the best paying non technical jobs in Portland. -Upper management does not care about you nor do they treat you as a human being. Extremely strict attendance policy. This job is the perfect symbol of everything late stage capitalism is. Ruthless attention to numbers, disregard of employees well being, and terrible pay. This job will break you.
