      If you are looking to get started in industrial sales but don't care about ethics Fastenal might be right for you.

      Pros

      Because of high turnover you can become Branch Manager very quickly regardless of talent of knowledge. This will at least look good on your resume. You will learn a lot about how public owned business operates. You can meet some great people, that if you stay in touch with, you can recruit later.

      Cons

      Executive management is highly insentivised by stock options, therefore, all decisions are made for growth and profit. ex: Payroll, benifits, promotions, firing, headcount, locations. Ethics are expected, and actually taught to branch and district personel, but not followed by regional and/or executive management. Headcount model has been prosicuted by the Department of Labor numerous times. Pay is sub par with the rest of the industry.

      Pros

      Upper management seldom visits the stores. There are many freedoms that other companies do not offer. Getting time off is easy. If you like spreadsheets and playing a 'numbers game' then you'll do fine.

      Cons

      The company preaches things like integrity, but morals take a back seat to profitability. This statement is true in all aspects of the business. Don't bring attention to this flaw in the system or you will be blacklisted. You will be told that in order to be successful you must 'do whatever it takes' to succeed. In my case, this meant working no less than fifty hours and up to seventy hours per week. It also meant driving my own car instead of a company truck.

      It is a job, company truck, flexible schedule at current branch, not stuck in a office all day long. Employed

      Cons

      lack of pay, long hours, no corporate support, no positive feedback, required to buy work wear program at no discount. Upper Management is questionable
