      Pros

      The best thing about FASTENAL is the constant competition and drive to overcome challenge with team effort. It is a company that directly rewards achievement and places focus on merit above all else. I learned the ropes on how to successfully canvass, develop, and generate revenue from a geographic territory.

      Cons

      Hardest part of the job is dealing with customizations. Enjoyable part is satisfying the client.

      Pros

      You find great opportunities to network with other sales professionals and industrial personnel. You learn hiw to streamline logistics in a much less than perfect infrastructure.

      Cons

      Long hours for the outside sales people and general managers of the branch locations with very little returned in the way of off days and monetary recompense. 6 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m. Monday through Friday is a long day for $2,400 base salary and the newly restructured commission actually takes away incentive to care for loyal long term customers. Exhausting to work for and not a good work/life balance.

      You have the advantage of learning a lot, then you can take what you learned and excel at a different place.

      Cons

      Working here is a rat race, and you will NEVER satisfy anybody, no matter how hard you work. This job is perfect for somebody who has NO LIFE - MEANING, NO WIFE, NO KIDS, OR ANY TYPE OF SOCIAL LIFE. This is the type of person they would like to clone and run every store: A SINGLE, MIDDLE AGED MAN WHO IS WILLING TO DEDICATE HIS ENTIRE EXISTENCE TO FASTENAL, who will allow himself to be walked on and abused and never be allowed to express how they really feel about a situation!
