Pros

Diverse positions, roles and departments with constant promotion from within. You can find your niche and enjoy what you do long-term. The customers are great! Working with people from different companies, skill levels and tenures allows you to learn a lot. The sales roles are fun. District Managers are down to earth and easy to connect with on different levels. Working in the warehouse or corporate level is not as exciting.

Cons

LOW PAY. HIGH TURN OVER. Compensation is not up to par with average market values in the Bay Area. If you are an expert sales person, you have great potential for income with commission. If you are internal store support, warehouse or corporate level, the pay is not desirable. There is not much value or recognition given to employees who are not rock star sales professionals.

Pros

I had an amazing GM. She worked with my hours and tried to give me more when needed. Off every weekend Great Benefits Advancement-Based on location

Cons

The worst part about Fastenal is working part time. I was only able to get 25 hours a week as part time. During the winter holidays, I went down to 16 hours. That was directed by our corporate office. Your location really determines a lot. If you are in a slow area, your opportunities for advancement may be slim.

Pros

For folks that know they could be great at sales but haven't gotten the training, Fastenal trains you to speak the language of industrial sales. You learn how to build and track your book of business, how to use a Contact Retention Module, and how to overcome objections. It's like getting paid to learn the ropes of sales.

Cons

If you have a tough location in the company, like one with very little potential for big numbers, you won't be getting paid very much. since the threshold for entry is so low it doesn't make sense to offer large base pay. If you do land in a larger sales territory you have potential to make 60-100k as an OSP or manager.
