Pros

Good money 50k plus. Independence. They will let you move up in the company fast and make a lot of promises. They have great hours of operation in most stores: 7-5. They are a debt free company.

Cons

They promise a lot and don't follow through. This isn't just a one time experience, this has happened to many of my co-workers all across the country. Fastenal like to tell you that if you perform to a certain level, you will get a raise. In reality, you get a raise only when they feel like giving you one. Also, corporate is full of people who think they are high and mighty. Just be weary of the fact that they hold their money tight and their Loyalty is to no one.

Pros

Upper management is mostly hands off. If you're a store manager you get to drive the company truck home. Otherwise, not much.

Cons

They believe in internal competition which is the ruination of organizational health. While profit is high, turnover is even higher. If you're good, you'll get a promotion but that will include a new sales goal before getting into bonus/commission money. Thus, you take one step forward and two steps back as the goal posts keep getting pushed back. When I was there the management was very uneducated in managerial styles and supervision techniques. The high-turnover-store-employees are often recent college grads whereas the upper management went to the school of hard knocks, stay forever, and don't realize how lacking they are in their managerial talent.
