Pros

Training is thorough, clients that you are placed with are of a high calibre . FDM staff are supportive and knowledgeable. Salaries are fair. Biggest pros are the opportunities available both during the two year placement period and thereafter in terms of clients and job roles.

Cons

7 weeks of training with some expenses paid, relatively reasonable amount but it can be a tight .

Pros

I have to say that I was a bit alarmed by some of the reviews at glass door regarding FDM, and only joined the academy in desperation as I had been applying for graduate jobs for a year without success. I'm now into the third year of my contract and I can honestly say that I have no regrets. I've just completed a 2 year stint at the Department for Work and Pensions and am about to start a new placement in London, which is my preference. As a third year consultant I get more say in where I'm placed and what I want to do. The training was intense but I learned practical skills for my career, and if I choose to leave, I know for a fact that I'm a much more attractive prospect for employers now than when I started. A number of the reviews described the FDM Academy as a scam. I don't remember exactly what the scam was supposed to be, but I can only say that I haven't been lied to once. Before signing the contract we were told plainly that we were only being offered an opportunity and that if we wanted to get rich, we were in the wrong place. I'm now being paid 31k per annum as a Technical Support Analyst. When I was considering signing a third year contract I looked on totaljobs.com to see if I could get a better deal elsewhere. I can, but it's rare. If FDM had been unfair with me, I wouldn't still be here.

Cons

The academy training period is unpaid, so I was lucky that I was able to stay with my parents for the duration. Also upon being placed, you will be obliged to stay with FDM for 2 years. You will also be required to be geographically flexible within the UK ; I had to move to Milton Keynes for my placement where I didn't know anyone.
