Initially Great But The Cracks Are Showing - Part-Time Supervisor UPS Employee Review

Pros

Initially the pay (including gain sharing, christmas bonus, benefits etc.) and the opportunity for advancement - not to mention the tuition reimbursement - greatly exceeded any other part-time job out there. the camaradarie is unheard of in the modern business world and the family (albeit dysfunctional at times) atmosphere makes it much easier to go into such a high-stress environment.

Cons

unfortunately with the economic downturn many of the "selling" points for part-time management positions have been cut (gain sharing, christmas bonus). part-time sups along with the hourly employees are on the front lines and will be the first to feel the brunt of a tough operating day. while the union is still protecting it's employees livelyhoods the part-time sups are now being asked to do more with less (this coming from a sup who helped propel a certain shift into the number one slot in the country for overall performance). the pressure's mounting but the incentives for performing above and beyond your job description are disappearing. it would be a shame to see a one hundred year plus company lose some of it's greatest assets - it's people - just to save a few dollars even though the company still manages to pull in hundreds of millions (perhaps a few billion) dollars in revenue even during the economic crises. i'm not naive. it's a capitolist company in a capitolist society and making money by offering superior service to our customers is the nature of the business. it would be a shame though to see greed lose many of the people who helped make the company all that money in tough times. you guys have made it a long time by being a company that holds integrity up high. if you keep putting the squeeze on the men and women on the front lines you won't just be losing that integrity.

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
