Pros

As a part-time employee you receive medical benefits and the pay rate is decent especially if you are a student or just looking to make some extra money.

Cons

This agency as a whole is very disorganized, it is also the laughing stock of all the agencies because it has only been in existence for 13 years. The first issue is that the agency has an SOP that is so poorly written that management at times can not interpret the proper meaning for what is written. Due to this you will spend most of your time confused about what you should and should not be doing. The second issue is that each airports director is allowed to enacted local airport procedures that can aren't included in the SOP, so you have to remember all of the SOP and the local airport rules. Both sets of these rules change often sometime within a matter of days which causes a lot of confusion. Again management has no idea what your suppose to be doing themselves because they are confused as well due to all the changes and poor implementation of those changes. The third issue is that the management is leadership team are never on the same page when communicating new rules and changes to the officers. So you can be told to do one things by a lead or supervisor and then be told to do something totally different by a manager. Fourth there are some issues with scheduling and staffing which causes the officers to have to work a lot harder while also being pressured to work faster. This leads me to the fifth issue although you will be told countless times by management and leadership not to rush to take your time they will indirectly pressure you to move faster to boast or comply with passenger wait time expectations. Some supervisors will just directly tell you to hurry up or that your moving too slow or calling too many bag checks. Ultimately feeling the pressure to move faster will eventually cause you to make a mistake which you will be punished for. While there are many different airports and working environments within those airports I have heard from many other officers who have been with the agency for five years or more that the issue that I listed are nationwide. There is not a lot of job security although you won't be laid off you can very easily be fired. The training is terrible, you get enough to try an survive your one year probationary period. Job is not worth taking if your looking to establish a career. If your looking to make some extra cash then yes its a decent job. Or if your looking to go to school then yes its a good opportunity because they have a program where they'll pay for you to get an associates degree.
