Pros
You will get paid hopefully if there isn't a furlough. Training about religions and experience with disabilities. You want to see many cultures and languages? This is a great job to experience society at it's worse and best. It puts 'people of Walmart' to shame. Maybe a new friend will come out of working here.
Cons
Depending on the location it can be very stressful. I work at a category x sized airport, LGA. The passenger flow to the checkpoints gets worse and worse every month. Working around a disgusting environment with traffic and construction outside the terminals. Not enough officers to maintain the number of passengers. Every year they keep adding more procedures and more testing without raising the salary. My morale has been dropping to the point I just want to quit. I am shocked I am still working here. Concerning passengers, I think I have heard it and seen it all working here, you really see the scum of society daily with pompous attitudes and belief that they can sexually harass and bully. No audio to protect you. A passenger sexually says something to you and you cannot prove it. A passenger uses racist phrases and they can get away with it. I once was requested by a passenger that I could not check their bag due to my skin shade. You have bias favoritism everywhere at LGA and TSA. No accountability. Racially not caucasian and female will get you promoted to work at positions off the floor. They will give a position to a pregnant or injured workers and they will likely stay at that position after her pregnancy or injury. Many positions are only offered by word of mouth through supervisors who are selective with favoritism. Have a conflict with a coworker? Good luck with that. Supervisors and management will mistreat it and even blame you for it if they could.
