Pros
There are a few upsides to working for Springer. There is a 35 hour work week although because of the workload is almost impossible to take advantage of but it's nice to know it's there. It's one of the very few publishers I've worked for that offers summer hours.
Cons
Springer has what amounts to a form of corporate welfare. There are people in almost all departments here that would have been fired or laid off in any other company for incompentancy. There are managers who have no basic understanding how their own department works and who consistently miss goals year after year yet are employed by Springer. It is both infuriating and disheartening for anyone who works hard at their job and is knowledgable within their field to have to answer to someone who works at the level of a high school intern.
