Pros

401K match and Holiday Shutdown

Cons

It has amazed me how much the culture has negatively changed in the years I have been at SCJ. Many of the insights I will share have the same sentiments of others on Glassdoor. WFH Policy: Pathetic and laughable. Fisk/Upper management has a “butts in seat” and “we are better together” attitude. Fisk/Upper management has refused to update the policy, which currently allows someone to work from home one day a week, ONLY if they live 20+ miles from campus. There is not trust that people will do their work yet we just proved that we could through the beginning of the pandemic while working from home. Sustainability: As others have said in their reviews, Fisk has been flying around the world, posing for pictures and swimming with garbage, yet he will not support the reduction of emissions produced when every single person drives their car to the office 5 days a week. Covid Response: Embarrassing to say the least. SCJ tried to force employees back into the office while Covid numbers were increasing last year (just before Thanksgiving 2020). Then they backed off. They did bring everyone back in the spring after multiple attempts. SCJ made it very difficult to get a medical exception. Forcing you to go to your doctor multiple times to fill out the same form that had one change. As if doctors had nothing else to do! We were in the midst of the pandemic. The amount of stress this added to the lives of those with medical concerns was unconscionable. By June everyone was forced back to the office no matter your health status. Currently, barely anyone wears a mask in the office. It is not mandated. Employees (especially management) could care less about the health of others. Our competitors have been extremely reasonable with their Covid response. Too bad SCJ didn’t handle themselves with care and concern for those that do the work. Bonus Structure: You will be told one thing during the interview process and the reality is very different. You will NEVER get your full bonus. No matter how well the company does. Training/Career Development: What training? It does not exist. Best of luck in your first year. You will need it! If you want to take an outside training course, good luck getting it approved. It will not be in the budget. Career development has completely been taken away. Promotion: Best of luck getting promoted. It is very difficult and political. Because of the mass exodus at SCJ they are hiring people in with less experience at a higher levels and pay. So much for taking care of those that have been loyal. Review Process: Forced PMP/rating system. Completely based on favoritism by management. Reactive: SCJ is not at all proactive with innovation. We are always following and late to the newest trends. This is extremely stressful for employees. The pressure put on employees by management to “hurry up” and validate just to copy our competitors is ridiculous. It is constant panic mode.

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback. We strive to create a positive, inclusive and unique workplace and we strongly believe SCJ people are able to achieve their best when they can collaborate and work together in person. We recognize this may not be the preference of some and appreciate that may be the case. But we are committed to maintaining our unique culture by attracting and retaining SCJ people who are aligned with our common values and purpose of working for a better world. As a family company, we hold ourselves and our products to a higher standard. We’re working every day to do what’s right for people and the planet through many sustainability initiatives that span decades. You can read about some of those initiatives here: https://www.scjohnson.com/en/stories/sustainable-world/environment/2021/june/8-ways-sc-johnson-is-supporting-a-more-sustainable-world-for-your-family Regarding returning to offices where local guidance has allowed, we have invested significant resources and have gone to great lengths in preparing our spaces for SCJ people to safely return to office. We have also offered additional benefits to help support SCJ people during these unique times, including childcare subsidies, testing, and vaccinations. Because we make decisions with careful consideration for the environment and the families who use our products, we recognize that at times, it may feel as though we aren’t moving fast enough. We believe in committing the necessary time and effort to collaborate cross-functionally to ensure we’re meeting customers’ needs and delivering the appropriate strategies, programs and solutions for our business. Please know that only job-related factors – such as job performance, training, experience or specialized skills that are required to properly perform the job – may be used as a basis for employment selection. Lastly, we wanted to share that we are proud to offer comprehensive benefits such as the ones you mentioned and many more. From expanded benefits that help employees stay healthy to flexible schedule options that help employees manage personal and work responsibilities to workplace leadership opportunities, our operations around the world offer a variety of programs to support the varying needs of SCJ people – not only in their work, but also in their lives outside of the office. We often hear from US-based employees that one of their favorite perks is the extended shutdown enjoyed during the holidays to recharge and reconnect with family.

Pros

You will not be bothered by people talking to you, benefits seem okay.

Cons

Don’t expect to be trained on anything. Management will expect you to figure things out on your own, request your own accesses and figure out what you need without any guidance. They’ll send people to you for questions on how to do stuff within your first couple days, not having taught you how to do those things.
