Pros

Genuinely been under Octopus for 6 weeks and they have done nothing good

Cons

Made 100’s of staff redundant In a really tone deaf meeting 6 weeks after taking over Shell energy retail ltd. We were given 2 hours notice for the meeting and that lasted less than 30 minutes, with out letting questions be asked then just expected us all to go back to work like nothing happened

Octopus Energy Response

Thank you for sharing your experience of Octopus Energy Group since we acquired Shell Energy in December. I'm sorry to hear that your experience of this has been negative. I posted a response to a colleague earlier and will share some of the same messages here, as well as hopefully addressing some of your points. Our UK leadership team have met hundreds of Shell team members over the last 6 weeks and we’ve worked as quickly as we could to let people know how this will affect them so they had more certainty over their future. I'm sorry if some of these meetings came at short notice. We've also enabled lots of opportunities for people to ask questions since those initial meetings. We’re pleased that we’ve been able to offer roles to all customer-facing staff in the Octopus business. I'd love for as many of the customer-facing team to join Octopus Operations as possible. Octopus Energy and our Kraken system was designed around customers and our operations teams, whilst doing so in an efficient & cost effective way. We understand that many of the roles at risk of redundancy are currently held by talented, hard working, conscientious people and we haven't taken these decisions lightly. However, many of these roles are at risk because once the businesses come together, those roles won't be required, either because our technology takes care of them, or the existing team performing them are able to scale the customer base without additional people in these areas. We’ve opened up many new roles for Shell team members, plus there are nearly 400 roles currently available at the Octopus Energy Group, most in the UK and many in the new Coventry office we're opening soon. We strongly encourage impacted people to apply or to attend one of the roadshows if you are interested in applying. I do appreciate that this reply may not resolve how you are feeling but I do hope it goes some way to explaining why these decisions have been made. I would like to offer the opportunity to discuss any of your concerns further by meeting with me or one of the leadership team. We’d welcome any feedback that you have and we could spend some time chatting about the different opportunities across the group. Kind regards, Joe Richardson Director of Operations, Octopus Energy GB

Pros

Some members of the company are the best people you’ll ever meet.

Cons

Genuinely a complete mess. Incompetent, passive aggressive leadership that repeatedly makes both poor and confusing company decisions. I have some absolutely crazy stories from things I’ve witnessed here. There’s things that are so bizarre and dysfunctional, they belong in an alternate reality.
