Pros

Benefits, vacations, home office, salary above average

Cons

Novartis is the classical company which has moved from expensive country to search for cheap labor, they are not willing to invest in their people and do not care about personal development a lot as long as the work is done. The saving policy went so far that even cleaning services in the facilities were cancelled during the daytime. The work load is very high but overtime is not paid. People quite usually are expected to do overtime voluntary and are sometimes put into uncomfortable situations due to refusing free overtime work. It’s quite hard to be promoted or have a good personal development if you don’t know “the right people”. All promotions have been done behind close doors and not giving opportunity for everyone to try. Management is very poor as well. I have personally asked my manager for additional tasks to learn some new processes or tools, none of which were taken into consideration and instead I was told to focus on primary tasks workload which I was doing ever since I joined the company. The position descriptions are not quite matching with the real work that you will have to do. They know how to sell position but do not tell the real work nature. The company has quite toxic working environment. There is no place for recognition. A lot of management decisions are being done according to prejudices, based on some list of “favorite people”; teams are full of gossips which does not make the environment so friendly.

Pros

Pays pretty well in comparison to similar jobs in the market

Cons

Unstable schedule where you are often asked to come in overnight (1-2 am) regardless of if you have worked the previous day or are off. Basically feels like you're permanently on-call to conduct environmental monitoring. Training is slow. The Micro dept in general is currently understaffed. The job also involves lab work once you are done with your daily environmental monitoring tasks. The work never ceases and the Technicians as a whole has several responsibilities. Promotions seem to come very slowly here.
