Pros

Sometimes they give us snacks and drinks that are expired, damaged, or stale. Job security is great because you’ll be guilt tripped into staying.

Cons

The store management is horrible. The store owner is a bully and a tyrant, and he degrades and abuses all of the shift leads, backups, and general employees regularly. The clicklist department is a joke. We’re treated like trash from customers every day and by other store employees. You’re expected to go “above and beyond”, but that will only lead to different expectations and scathing reprimands if you don’t meet them. The pay is 13.25, but it’s not enough. The benefits are only for full time employees, but everyone is forbidden from working any over time and are scheduled for 39.5 hours maximum to ensure that Kroger doesn’t have to give out the benefits. My hours have been getting cut more and more, to the point where I’m only scheduled for 23 hours per week, but the store constantly runs behind and is always scrambling to catch up. There is no covid safety measures, and hasn’t been since I started in May 2020. Employees were working while positive for Covid, myself included. It took a month for me to come back because there was no communication or structure for handling it. There are no safety and security measures at night, and we have had multiple people overdose in the bathrooms. There was no training, except for some videos about programs we didn’t use for months. Any upgrades in departments didn’t get any training or use for months.

Pros

Great benefits at a reasonable cost. First year you get 2 weeks vacation, 5 PTO days, and 5 Health and Wellness days. Loved the hourly (union) people I worked with at various locations. They become your second family

Cons

- Crazy schedule. You will be either scheduled to work a 7-5, 12-10, or a 9-7 depending on the location. And even when the schedule is posted for the period it typically changes week to week, so do not bother making plans. And get ready for 5-10 closes in a row then opening the next day. -9 times out of 10 you never get to use your earned time off due to circumstances at the store you are assigned to. And yes, you will lose them they do not accrue. -If you are lucky enough to be assigned at a store with a strong store manager then things are different, but if not, get ready to blamed for every failure of the store, even when the labor model continues to be cut to the point that you are lucky if you have 2 people in a department and someone from corporate walks in and wants to know why the departments are not set. -Endless micro-managing. Your day is mapped out what you should be doing verses what you know you should be doing. It is check the box that that the "task" is completed when in fact there is no one to complete it, except you. Ergo that is why many just "fudge" it.
