Good company, long hours - Associate KPMG Employee Review

Pros

Career advancement opportunities, and an obvious path for progression. The reputation you gain from working in an international company, and the opportunities for secondments in the long term Responsiblity is given straight off the bat, and the benefits can be very good.

Cons

Hours can be long and unsociable. You are also 'expected' to put long hours in, even some weekends. Culture differs from office to office, meaning some of your peers could have accomplished more than you have because they work in smaller offices, and are exposed to more. You sometimes feel like cog in a big wheel.

Pros

You get to work with an awesome, highly resilient group of local peers in the advisory practice. The KPMG brand still holds value, but the internal team dynamics have become incredibly fractured.

Cons

We have outsourced 80%+ of our Risk Advisory work, leaving onshore seniors with massive gaps in their experience. As a manager, I am stuck doing senior-level work because I typically have only one or zero local seniors or associates on my teams. The best leaders have already resigned because this model prevents actual management and mentoring. Also, it might take you 30+ years to become partner in Risk Advisory, if at all.
