Pros
· Getting to know people in a wide range of departments. · Making contacts with a big number of clients, as IBM is more of a consulting company nowadays. · Developing cutting-edge technology (obviously depending on the department you work at). These days the focus is on AI. IBM Watson is the product line related to AI. · IBM is a huge international company. Your chances of transferring from one department to another, or even moving to another country are high, as long as you're willing.
Cons
· Working in a huge company also has its cons. Mainly, you may feel like a number. Just one more employee. Sometimes your work, even if great, might not get any visibility at all. At most it will get noticed by your immediate manager, but that's it. · Sometimes it feels like you're missing the big picture of what really is going on in IBM. · In the specific case of IBM Spain, the chances of getting actually hired by IBM are slim because of a legal problem related to a change in retirement plans around 20 years ago. The most likely scenario is working in an IBM project, but getting paid by a collaborating company. So it is really hard to become a 100% IBMer in Spain.
