Pros

Working at Halliburton Consulting affords you two significant advantages that you cannot get anywhere else - complete and full access to everything that Halliburton offers in its other business segments, including Landmark Software; and the opportunity to work on fulfilling projects with some of the industry's brightest people, while using cutting-edge ideas and processes being implemented right now, and globally. These two qualities alone make a position at Halliburton Consulting a hard offer to refuse. This organization can take someone places and by nature, essentially guarantees that they will grow their skills.

Cons

As a consultant, one is a resource, and unfortunately, this is more apparent in Halliburton Consulting than other consulting groups I've experienced. The structure of the North American division has allowed for difficulties in connecting with management, and even with other colleagues within the organization. There lacks the cohesiveness that is present among similar organizations, which would allow for shared ideas and experiences to grow the group as a whole, as opposed to perhaps only a portion it, and also each as individuals. The idea is present, to be sure, but there is little follow-through. In addition, new employees should know that training in basic divisional practices are not guaranteed. New hire training, depending on the client need for resources (aka the consultant), can easily be foregone. Even an internal transfer can have difficulties adjusting, so being prepared for this possibility is important, and will not necessarily be communicated either. Also, with so many resources (consultants) per hiring manager, expect difficulty receiving responses to direct emails and/or phone calls. Team Leads are set in place, but again, this may not be communicated to you for some time. It is this kind of detective work that can eat up a lot of one's time and energy, and unnecessarily add to the already high-stress and work load.

Pros

* Strong brand recognition and opportunity to work on large-scale marketing initiatives. * Exposure to technical subject matter and cross-functional collaboration. * Good place to learn how large enterprise organizations operate.

Cons

I joined in a hybrid role where flexibility was an important factor in accepting the position and making personal life decisions. Within about a year, the organization moved to a full return-to-office model. While companies can change workplace policies, the transition felt abrupt and inconsistent in practice. A recurring challenge was that expectations around in-office presence did not always appear to match day-to-day reality. Remote participation still occurred for meetings and operational needs, which created confusion around when flexibility was acceptable and when it was not. Within my department, I also experienced challenges around communication and collaboration. Feedback on projects sometimes arrived late or only after priorities had shifted, and in some cases work was reassigned or substantially changed without clear involvement from the original contributor. Public criticism of work product without prior coaching made it difficult to improve or feel ownership over deliverables. Leadership communication during organizational changes often felt more focused on compliance than employee concerns. Employees raising questions about work arrangements sometimes perceived limited space for open discussion. Over time, the combination of reduced flexibility, inconsistent application of expectations, and limited recognition of specialized contributions negatively affected morale and trust.
