Pros

The only good thing in this office is the Costa.

Cons

I'm not too sure where to start with my experience at Capital One. I was subject to bullying, taking matters to HR that weren't taken seriously, certain type of harassment (which was upheld in my favor), and a huge degree of bullying. My time in complaints was quite simply horrendous. I have to be mindful a lot of the unprofessional activity that took place is confidential but the main message I want to relay is that this is generally a culture where your own personal development is not taken seriously, especially when you have what it takes to do well. You get absolutely no support, and the management team work as a cult to keep their favourites by giving them better treatment, and work you out if they don't like you. Usually when you try to avoid being involved or subject to gossip. Despite multiple efforts to progress, I felt forced to stay in my position as they were so understaffed, and I knew what I was doing. This felt like a punishment based on just how bad the culture is alone. I have friends still within the department who tell me about all of the same concerns to this day, and whilst I've been embarrassed to share my experiences in the past, it really should be spoken about. The ops area in general is riddled with serious issues and having left and moved to a much better world of ops, I realise just how bad I was treated, despite only ever working hard to achieve my own objectives. Luckily, it paid off for me once I left, however I hear many of the same stories are continuing. If you want to work for a company who are more interested in your personal life and take joy out of gossiping, this is the place for you. If you want to develop, do well, and be supported in a good culture, avoid. I have witnessed some unimaginable things - some of which I can't quite believe I allowed to sit back and happen. I know this is still happening, so I urge senior management to take a good look at the click of ops alone. Pay attention and believe what you've already heard. Pay attention to your staff who are buddies with HR .For such a big corporate business, this is without question the worst place I've ever worked and I would never recommend this department. The systems are so incredibly out of date, the controls are still manually input, and you are more at risk of being on a performance plan than ever succeeding unless the rules are bent (again, if you're unprofessional... they seem to like bullies/gossips, so be aware).

Pros

Note- last year there was 2018, would not allow that option. Employee engagement always high priority.

Cons

Note- last year there was 2018, would not allow that option. Highly focused on sales vs service.

Pros

Some of the smartest individuals in their fields. The focus is always “forward” and the company is willing to adopt new tech to stay ahead for the purposes of the company’s (key word there) benefit. Great PTO and benefits.

Cons

The company’s drive to keep itself moving forward has caused it to regress in other aspects. As a leading tech company first, and leading bank second, it’s embarrassing what their stance is on hybrid and remote work. The company can easily accommodate remote options for their employees not near main offices, but chooses not to. I am relocating to a major city with no major CapOne presence and their response was “too bad, either fly up weekly or you’ll be terminated for not meeting the hybrid requirements”. It’s embarrassing because most of my week is remote anyways. I wonder how many current and past employees have been impacted, and I’m worried about how much talent they’ll be pushing away in the coming years.
