Pros

CIBC offers a competitive salary and benefits compared to its industry. Training is encouraged to be taken to further your career. Culture and diversity is very evident in the makeup of the organization. Organization is very active in the community (i.e. sponsors a variety of community events)

Cons

Constant organization churns that inevitably leads to layoffs. Organization does not seem to have a long term strategy and is highly reactive. Over the last few years, CIBC has taken a lesser role in developing employees (placing the responsibility on the employee instead). CIBC is very process oriented organization to the point where there is more paperwork to fill out then the work itself. As an employee it can be difficult to take pride at this organization for the following reasons: 1. Has fallen from #2 to #5 Canadian Top Bank (with no definitive plans on how to reverse its drop) 2. Marketing is questionable (i.e. their spokesperson is Percy the penguin) 3. The least diverse bank (compared to its peers) - primarily Canada even with recent acquisition of Private Bancorp.

Pros

-People were friendly and would do coffee chats/one-on-one lunches. -Other interns were great. -Base compensation as an analyst is on the higher end.

Cons

-Feedback from intern manager only given at the end of a rotation differed greatly from what team members would directly tell me which was confusing. Makes me think people are only nice on the surface. -Team members prioritized some interns over others in terms of work given and time spent. -Teams in the same product group had wildly different work life balance with some working 70+ hours a week and others working close to 40. -Has high turnover overall due to lower compensation at the Director+ level.
