Pros

The benefits used to be good; time off policy is solid and flex time is family friendly

Cons

Promotions aren't correlated with how hard you work or your workload. Benefits continue to be slashed. Health care is only high-deductible now. We're continued to be asked to develop "world class content" with third world resources and insultingly low salaries. Stated core values aren't carried out in practice.

Pros

The environment was welcoming and supportive, and I could tell most people were happy to be there. Perks were relatively nice- good cafeteria, holiday party, decent coffee, etc. People around you have good ideas and are competent at what they do- it would be nice if the structure of the organization was a little more nimble.

Cons

Company was very large, which made coordination and innovation difficult. Publishers are on the brink of big changes, and Elsevier might be too big for its own good. It was hard to communicate across departments; people often felt out of touch with what else was going on, and this affected efficiency, led to redundant work, and reduced employee satisfaction.
