Pros

Elsevier is a stable and dependable company to be employed. The benefits are better than average compared with other businesses. The PTO increases with tenure. The culture is competitive within the industry but there is a healthy level of home/work balance.

Cons

The pay scale for new hires is not usually on par with competitive rates of similar jobs. There is usually no room for growth or advancement in your career ladder. There is a heavy amount of middle/upper management. Upper management changes every few years which sometimes leader to restructure of departments and business units.

Pros

Elsevier is a professional, multinational publishing organization, full of smart people, and helping customers achieve amazing things. The organization is professional, with good opportunities to learn and evolve. The company is also becoming more open minded in trying new business models, and tools to support more users in scalable ways.

Cons

While there are opportunities to grow (e.g. with greater management responsibility and in title) it is extremely hard to grow compensation. Salary increases are modest, and they are often counter-balanced by cuts, e.g. in bonuses. After several years this forces many people out.

Pros

Decent benefit package. Hard to think of any other positives.

Cons

Horrible manager/management. No tools or processes to support employees - the logo says it all about the company - somewhere back in the dark ages.
