Pros

The culture is people focused and great emphasis in placed on reinforcing the value of the people as an asset to organizational success. To this end, the firm provides an excellent benefits package, training and development opportunities and a "flexibility" benefit that makes work/life balance very attainable. EY prides itself on high ethical standards and delivers on that commitment.

Cons

Highly matrixed, disorganized structure. Lack of efficiency. Lots of red tape, making it difficult to accomplish the simplest of tasks without proper documentation. Poor or fragmented communication practices. Despite quality being one of the critical success factors, the actual quality of work outside of the audit function often leaves a lot to be desired.

Pros

The people are the best. I really enjoyed working with some of the most well-round, intelligent people among the Big 4 accounting firms. Culture at the firm is great and team oriented. If you like accounting you will fit right in. There is also a lot of freedom to move from project to project.

Cons

One downside is that there is no clear execution of their corporate strategy. It was difficult hearing about the plan and then not seeing any changes occur. Another downside is that you need to take a very active role in navigating your career at the firm and find your own projects. It is helpful to communicate your career goals to your senior managers and partners, they will take your goals into consideration, but you will get staff where you are needed regardless.

Pros

Does wonders for your resume. It's like serious boot camp for your career. Loads of training/technical development. A ton of intelligent people to learn from constantly. You are always being challenged by both senior management and the clients.

Cons

Same as with all big 4. Long hours with very little incentives. You're essentially on your own and HR is not useful as in a typical company. The pay does not compensate for the work you do, but there's delayed gratification in how much you can make when you leave. Very little work/life balance for those looking to raise a family and have a life outside of work.
