Review from an R&D Engineer

Pros

I have enjoyed working with a great group of people for several years at Dexcom. There is a real sense of commitment to helping those with diabetes. Our R&D budget as a percentage of our revenue is much higher than other companies I have worked at, and this gives us the backing to aggressively attack project challenges and schedules.

Cons

With aggressive schedules there is a lot of pressure to excel, but that is not always a bad thing. Communication up and down the organization could be improved so that all team members have the same goals and understanding.

Pros

Dexcom is an extremely fast paced and demanding place to work. Because the company is growing so quickly, there is always work to be done and a high amount of pressure coming from management to excel. If you are up for a challenge and you know how to get things done, I highly recommend working at Dexcom because you will ultimately be rewarded for your efforts. I started as a contractor and was converted to a full-time employee. I have since then moved on to a different department that I find more enjoyable and fitting to my skill-set. The people here are friendly and management (at least my managers) sincerely try to set you up for success (through trainings, networking, etc.).

Cons

Due to the fast pace of growth, the knee-jerk reaction to correct outstanding issues is to hire more people. Unfortunately, this causes the hiring process to be rushed which results in a lot of people who are not a good fit for the position. Benefits/pay could be better: there is no matching on 401k and the pay is lower relative to other medical device companies in San Diego.
