Pros

-Great name -Great benefits -No fear of losing your job because you can stay "on the bench" for months at a time between projects

Cons

-Have to do a lot of extra company initiative work to get promoted, but this just ends up being something to "check the box" instead of people doing something they really want to do -Salary and bonuses are tied to your rating, and most people get the middle rating of "3" -You're expected to work over 40 hours a week -You don't "belong" to any Principal, Partner, or Director (P/P/D), so nobody is looking out for you -"Talent" gets to make the ratings at performance review time, and they don't know you from Adam -I was part of the BearingPoint acquisition, and former BearingPoint employees aren't treated the same by "legacy" Deloitte management -Employees below the Sr. Consultant level are not eligible for bonuses, yet they are usually the hardest working group

Pros

You actually will make a difference, just through Impact Day. Much of the work you do on a day to day basis is rote.

Cons

Very long hours. A lot of turnover recently. Willingness to cut back to the bone in the downswing, then tout their "commitment to investing in people."

Pros

The firm is highly committed to people development -- personal and professional. There was a rough transition period during the 2002-2003 time period (particularly in Chicago), when transferring Andersen professionals outnumbered legacy Deloitte folks. However, the resulting blend of the two cultures has made Deloitte a real powerhouse and enabled the firm to make some major strides that would not have been possible but for the combination

Cons

Politics...which is unavoidable in an organization of that size. But, still, it can be extremely difficult to recover if you end up on the wrong side of a power struggle. For the most part, competency usually prevails, but not always.
