Pros

so far good balance btw work and personal life. Manager actually tries to accomodate your needs. However, hard to get 1:1 time but when you do then it is OK. No particular required face time needed, as long as you get the job done. Cheap gym access, OK food in the cafeterias. what else can i write...maybe pretty good benefits and relocation assistance. Co-workers seem down to earth. Opportunities to move within the company after 12/18 months. Food in cafeteria is cheap, cheaper and better than some fast food restaurants - serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Parking is hell in the mornings

Cons

Just too unstructered and at times undefined roles and responsibility. Hard to access management at times. Too large organization and easily becomes one of many. Not sure if the pay for performance metric is really in place and unbiased. Heard rumors that it works like "if i scrub your back then you scrub my back". Parking is hell in the morning. Just too many different tools for the jobs and no compatibility whatsoever between these. Long and hasslesome procedures e.g. submit work orders here (online) and there and no real 'personal' touch to it. Little or none face time with sr. management

Pros

I love the computer industry. It's a hobby as much as a job.

Cons

Just about everything else... I've been rated good or best every year but I'm still the same level that I was 13 years ago. Management is deeply involved in every decision but makes them without the experts or data in the room...and never tells employees their decisions until some issue comes up with it that the employee has to fix. Senior leadership is lost in the wilderness. There is no diligence to finding out what's wrong and working to fix it. Everthing is a blind shot in the dark based on "gut feel".

Pros

There are many perks with working with Dell. For example, sometimes when there's a lot of overtime, people who actually complete all the required hours get gift cards to WalMart. Every 3 months we get a free catered lunch and an additional free meal. We receive discounts at various places around Austin. Every year there's a free trip (up to 4 tix) to a theme park. When you do good work, you get opportunities to cash in "Star of Dell" cards. Outstanding employees get chances to win electronics and/or gift cards. There's free raffles almost every other month to win things.

Cons

OVERTIME, OVERTIME, OVERTIME! People with families don't get to spend much time with them. You can't really plan out your weekends because sometimes they give us notices during Friday's shift about coming in on Saturdays and Sundays. You must be flexible with your schedule to work here. But I must say, doubletime paychecks are pretty nice. =)
