Pros

Global company with excellent cross-functional opportunities for talented individuals. Good networking and performance give you opportunities for advancement.

Cons

Forced distribution on performance ratings/promotions does not always reward the worthy employees. If you have talented peers, then your chance for promotions and "exceeds expectations" reviews is diminished. Another difficulty is if you get promoted faster than the pay grade system operates... Many upwardly mobile individuals end up perpetually underpaid because they advanced too quickly. In most cases, an external hire could get a much better salary for the same work, giving rise to the commonly used quote "Dell is the best first and third job you ever had." Pay people based on the work they do, not on their previous pay grade.

Pros

Pay - until recently. Understandably bonus and stock option reductions have taken a toll this past year threatening the only positive left at this company.

Cons

Job security is nil. As an employee you need to navigate the mine field to avoid layoffs, outsourcing, and the ongoing migration of jobs to low cost locations. Rolling layoffs are a way of life - in any given week there are layoffs somewhere at Dell.

Pros

Great structure and know how. Good place to grow and learn the ropes of the business. They are very keen on informing you about what's going on in the firm. International company that gives you opportunities for overseas development. It's is very easy to get to know people as you are welcomed by seniors of the firm. Great team spirit and activities involved. Think it is very easy to advance within the firm and if you move on to another firm it is an excellent background to have.

Cons

Maybe somewhat too controlled by the seniors and you are expected to be very loyal.
