Pros

Great company culture - values diversity, authenticity, transparency. Wonderful, dedicated people. Lots of opportunities to learn and lead in different areas.

Cons

Frequent restructuring means that it is difficult to sustainably and efficiently drive forward momentum and for improvements to stick, which can be frustrating and cause lots of unnecessary stress. It also means that job stability is uncertain. At the end of the day, you are a number. Even high performance rating does not protect you from the frequent layoffs. If you work for them, make sure to have a strong network OUTSIDE the company so you can find a job when/if you leave.

Pros

Overall good place to work.

Cons

RIF about every 3-4 years, mostly clearing out people who have been there a while. Not ever being able to return as part of the severance package. Promotions from within are allowed 5% salary increase, even if floor for new position well exceeds that. New hires including new grads often make salaries in the 10s of thousands more than people who have been there 20+ years.

Pros

Not a big city. Good location. Flexible hours.

Cons

Cummins is very involved with social justice activism. If you are an American citizen applying for an engineering role, your resume may never be seen. Where I am, it's about 90% H1B visa workers and that fraction is growing. When hiring, we're not even allowed to see all applicants. Equity, not equality, is their motto. Cummins is diametrically opposed to traditional/conservative family values and they are not afraid to show it. If you are not a minority, don't expect to be promoted -- but you probably won't get hired in the first place. For the record, I am seeking new employment because I don't count as a "diverse" and may be cut for that very reason.
