Pros

- Salaries are typically a little above average. - In general, non-management employees tend to be pretty nice folks and fairly honest.

Cons

- Its NEVER about achieving anything - its all about the bureaucracy (or "processes" as they call it). - Always a Lord / Serf relationship between management and employees. - Conflicting "metrics" and management promoted contempt continuously pit one business unit against the other. - Executives and "The Board" go to ANY length to create a public perception of Global Saviors of Mankind at the expense of their employees. - A diesel engine company whose leaders have ZERO passion for diesel engines - the elder "gearheads" have left and have been replaced by typical public corporation management. - "Benefits" are much worse than average. - 90% of your day will consist of feeding the bureaucratic machine. - Rarely will they "fire" anyone....instead, they have regular layoffs to get rid of people that don't fit the "culture". - If tremendous profits are deemed "not enough" by the "shareholders", you will go without (supplies, resources, raises, bonuses, employment, benefits, etc.). - Treatment of their employees contrasts the culture and values that they "publish" to the world.

Pros

There are no 'pros' to working for this company, unless you happen to be from a culture other than the USA. Then you have an automatic job for life, with no worries of ever being let go for any reason. This company talks non-stop about embracing diversity and the white males have found that this diversity does not include them!

Cons

The hire and fire mentality of this company is ridiculous. I now know from the locals that this company has operated this way for the last 20 or so years. Hire people they don't really need, because the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, then just kick people to the curb when they feel like it. I left a job with a little over 20 years of seniority to take a position with Cummins early last year. Every single week there were more new people coming in the door. Then 8 months after I started this new job, the company stated that due to a downturn in orders they were going to have to let people go. Here's the kicker, there was NEVER a stop to the hiring until that announcement was made. The downturn in business did not happen over night. They knew it was happening and continued to bring new people in, in spite of it. So, since I was the least senior "american white male" in my department, I lost my job. And at Cummins it's not a lay-off, it is permanent. They plainly state that you will never have an opportunity to work at Cummins again, ever! But get this, a few weeks after all the people were cut, they have adds on the net showing job openings! How totally irresponsible is that? I would not recommend this sad excuse of a company to my biggest enemy! Let me be clear, I wanted to work for this company for a long time and was ecstatic when the opportunity came along. So, to blow this review off as the rantings of a "disgruntled" former employee are not fair. Yes, I am disgruntled, but that is because of the way I, and thousands of others like me, have been unfairly treated by Cummins.
