Pros

Its reputation proceeds it -- there is a halo effect just by having the name on your business card. The magazines are generally first rate products respected by readers. The pay is pretty much top of the line for journalists, and the travel budget seems endless.

Cons

There seems to be a sense of: As long as the magazines look good and sell ads, no one cares how happy employees are. The cultures inside the different magazines vary widely, and some treat writers and editors with respect while others clearly do not. And the technology choices made by CN's IT department are, to be kind, baffling.

Pros

The pay, the prestige, the access and the perks are great.

Cons

Expectations to be away from family and home 5 days a week. Very clubby and insular environment. Extremely inappropriate behavior among certain senior people. If you're 30 and feel like kissing ass for the next 10 years, go work at Conde, but when you're 40, still single and think that another dinner at Nobu is the be all end all, then have a happy career.
