Pros

You get to work with some fantastic journalists as well as other talented and well connected people

Cons

The hours that you are required to work mean you cannot have any work/life balance. The Editorial leadership globally is very poor. There is a lot of bullying and for many women they experience misogyny on a daily basis. I witnessed senior leaders in the US teams bullying their direct reports to the point where they would be physically shaking after a meeting. The business infrastructure to support the teams are stuck in an archaic mentality with poor business practices. Recruitment of new leadership has made the company take many steps backwards with limited consideration for wellbeing of staff. Poor behaviour is rife within the most senior leadership teams. The recent global changes have meant it is no longer a place to work if you want to feel resourced and supported in your job. Taking decisions are very difficult- if the answer you give is not well received it is taken above your head all the way to the top.

Pros

• easy job • free food • mostly relaxed dress code

Cons

• poor pay for such a big company • no real benefits • have to wait a year for time off • constantly pile on and add on work that is not in your job description • A lot of people slack which causes you to be stuck with all the work. • no real way to move up • the hours are bad

Pros

I am impressed by what my co-workers can accomplish every day. I work with brilliant people. And instead of giving up when there are barriers in the way of our work, we find ways to work together to either remove the barriers or find a new way forward. We stay focused on what will and can be done instead of wallowing in what isn't happening right now.

Cons

There's a difference between a lean company and a skeleton company. We are on the skeleton side with some bones missing. It's impressive that we're still performing for global audiences with a large fan base. Imagine what we could do with our bones, organs, muscles, and skin back. We can live off of, "We appreciate the hard work and additional hours you put in," for only so long.
