one word...ROLE PLAY. Every second of downtime you role play doing different scenarios of what customers or celebrities might say about the product and how you would sell it to positive and negative customers. You need to do about 10 steps with every customer in case of secret shopper review. If you are busy and don't do all of them you get yelled at my managers. You are also on os call all the (LIKE A NURSE) and have to call 2 hours b4 your shift to see if your working. You can never make any plans with friends/family because you don't know when you'll be working. You also have sales goals that you must meet. In my case even when there was a snowstorm adn only one customer I was somehow supposed to make that person buy enough for my entire day goals.
