Pros

I've worked for Cisco twice, the first time for five years a contractor. Then for a year and half as a full-time employee. Good pay, lots of remote positions.

Cons

Cisco's approach to fixing a system is Reorg! Every three months getting a new Director or Vice President. That person takes the baton to talk about whatever jargon the company is into at the moment without making any differences. Then cutting people, I think there were 3 or 4 rounds of layoffs when I was in. It's hard to take a company series, "we have awesome culture" when you position is like russian roulette.

Pros

Great benefits. Some smart and inspiring executive leaders. So big you can probably keep switching jobs for many years. Recent improvements to corporate approach toward people and culture (more inclusive, improved learning and training content, etc.), though it's just the beginning

Cons

In addition to some great executive and senior leadership, there's plenty bad ones. Toxic teams abound. Way too much politics and gossiping. Nepotism. Bad leaders who should not be managing people. Salary not always competitive. Way too many org changes so it's not unusual anymore to have multiple managers and/or job titles within a year time frame. Layoffs are the norm. ONEx org is crazy in a bad way: optics and brown-nosing gets you ahead, trying to do the right thing or speaking up is a career killer now, your teammates are your competition now, covering your a** is the new norm

Pros

Good pay, flexibility I was in love with this company from the beginning as a college grad. I always thought I would be a lifer here. It has changed a great deal over the last 5 years as our executive leadership has shifted.

Cons

Position in the market is slipping as Exec Leadership is more focused on social issues than driving revenue. I've seen so many peers leave the company because the technology seems to come second to "woke" initiatives. Cisco sent an email to all employees threatening termination in late October if you were not vaccinated or pursing an accommodation. For those that requested an accommodation, 6 months have gone by with no update. Other large tech companies have dropped this mandate but not Cisco. A company that focuses so heavily driving an inclusive future for all, seems to completely omit those who have medical conditions, personal beliefs, etc that derive from the narrative. There seems to be only one acceptable way of thinking (politically, socially) at Cisco. While Cisco makes headlines donating to BLM, Homelessness in San Jose, etc. the investments in Cisco Networking Academy in 3rd world companies has dried up. Very sad for our colleagues in countries like Kenya trying to make a difference.
