Pros

If you want a company with a good brand, market share and status, Cisco is a good one. Good opportunities for working remote. Good to have 1-2 years of Cisco experience on your resume, then look for a firm that you'd want to work at.

Cons

Cisco has either bought or driven most competitors into the ground resulting in no urgency around providing quality products. No transparency into the promotion process, it works as a good old boy network. Aside from a few token women VPs, there are no career advancement opportunites for women. Management does not listen to employees - their egos are so large, they either know it all already or they are too busy fighting internal territorial battles. If you want a company exploding with arrogance, this is the right one.

Pros

I was really proud to say that I worked at Cisco. I spend over 20 years of my life at Cisco and I really enjoyed most of it. I got to meet and work with some amazing people, most are still great friends. The early days were the best when you actually worked as part of a team. I learned a lot and enjoyed the work/life balance. The continuous training available was always top-notch. If you want to find someplace to hide and retire, there are plenty of dark holes in Cisco to do it.

Cons

Too much turnover! Senior people are put in positions they should not hold and this includes the majority of management. If you are not in your director's inner circle then you may as well pack your bags. To get into the inner circle you just have to play the game, kiss the right behinds, and squawk a lot. You don't actually have to work, you just have to be a puppet. If you dance enough little monkey, they may toss you a shilling. The "People Deal" and "Stack Rank" are horrendous and just created a cutthroat mentality, absolutely destroying teams. Lay-offs every 6 months, re-org every 2-3 years, and complete restructuring every 4-5 are exhausting!
